Damnit, I was gonna make a drawing of this, with Kurt spitting his coffee all over Blaine’s face, but now it’s already been done in real life gif form. THANKS TUMBLR~! WE ARE OFFICIALLY THROUGH~! J/k, I still love you, take me back ;___;
PLEASE DRAW THIS! YOUR ART FILLS ME WITH SPARKLING HEARTS :’) ♥
I AM AWARE THAT WHAT I JUST SAID MAKES LITTLE SENSE. NO REGRETS.
While I follow really awesome, quality people, that (for the most part) try to keep fandom wank and shipping wars out of their blogs, I’ve still come across a lot of character bashing lately. Particularly over the character of Blaine Anderson on Glee. Now this itself isn’t an uncommon occurrence. There’s been controversy over this character even before we ever saw him on our screens, primarily because people became confused/opinionated about who exactly was going to be Kurt Hummels boyfriend, Sam Evans or this new guy. And as the Kurt/Blaine pairing became more and more predominant the hate for both the ship and the character of Blaine, unsurprisingly, disappointing as that phenomenon is.
But lately it’s grown to such levels and visibility that have honestly started to affect me, which is annoying because I’m a fan who actively unfollows people that post what I consider to be utter nonsense regardless of whether they ship kum, or klaine, or pretty much anything else. So I’m not just talking about little throw away comments here and there, or bits of fandom squabbling - that I can handle since I’m not new to fandom, and I’m not even new to the volatile nature of them. I’m talking about arguments and interpretations of Blaine that not only strike me as false but strike me as troubling.
I want to preface this by saying that I’m not implicating all, or even the majority of kummers in this rant. I follow a few people who either ship Kurt/Sam or multi-ship and they’re wonderful, smart, people. But there is a corner of that fandom that not only participates in the hate, but propagates it to such a point that it reaches and effects a fan like me. The more ‘militant’ fans are the people I will be addressing when I mention ‘kum shippers’ in my discussion below, so please don’t mistake anything I say as an overstatement or generalization.
The hate I’ve been seeing the most lately is as follows. I’ve seen way too many instances of people claiming that:
Blaine is judgmental/abusive
Blaine is really jealous of anyone who spends times with Kurt because
Blaine is possessive
Blaine is undeserved of whatever comes his way because he hasn’t had to overcome enough ‘adversity’
And what follows below the cut is my response (under a cut because it’s long):
